Leather garments, equipment and accessories will absorb water and 'become waterlogged' when used in damp or wet conditions if their durable water repellent treatment (DWR) has been compromised.

When leather absorbs water, it loses its tanning agents and lubricants, which makes it dry, stiff and prone to cracking. Over time, its structure degrades.

Furthermore, when leather is wet, its breathability decreases. This causes a feeling of sweating and dampness inside leather garments, due to condensation.

Therefore, the durable water repellency (DWR) of your leather equipment must be maintained to ensure comfort and performance. With use, the outer surface of the leather becomes dirty, attracting water and thus masking the effectiveness of the water-repellent treatment.
