Deltamethrin, a molecule of the synthetic pyrethroid family, is characterized by its acaricidal and insecticidal activity, acting by modifying the permeability of sodium channels. - Knock-down effect: the parasite is paralyzed
- Lethal effect: the parasite is killed

LEISHMANIASIS: a fatal disease for dogs
Leishmaniasis is a serious disease of dogs that is often fatal. The disease is transmitted from dog to dog by the bite of a tiny insect called the sandfly.
The parasite that causes the disease is a microscopic protozoan called Leishmania. There is no vaccine against this disease. The disease most often leads to the death of the dog in due course. Moreover, although rare, transmission to humans is possible.

THE SANDFLY
Sandflies are the insect vectors of leishmaniasis. That is, they transmit the parasite responsible for the disease. They resemble small hairy mosquitoes; they are not heard when they fly. They are found in rural areas or in the wooded areas of cities (gardens and parks). The typical sandfly season runs from April to October but this season can vary depending on climatic conditions. Sandflies are nocturnal and are mainly active at dusk and dawn. Only female sandflies take a blood meal to nourish their eggs. Before sucking blood, the insect injects saliva; it is at that moment that the parasite is injected into the dog.

LEISHMANIASIS IN FRANCE
Leishmaniasis mainly affects the Mediterranean basin; however, with climate warming, the disease is spreading and intensifying westward and northward. There are also outbreaks in the Pyrenees, the Millau and Agen regions and in the Lot.
If you live in these regions (or travel there): it is essential to protect your dog.
Before going on holiday with your companion, in the south of France or in an area at risk for leishmaniasis, remember to protect your dog with a SCALIBOR collar.
